In front of Sir Francis Drake's ship.
OMG, I hated that coat so much that I still can't see it without shuddering.

Brought forward for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: AMUSEMENT PARKS
Showing "The World's Longest Pier" (one mile long) in the background, and the seafront Amusement Park with the ferris wheel and the "Bumper Cars" sign visible.
We used to love taking the train to the end of the mile long pier.
Some other examples of the Southend amusement park for younger kids, Peter Pan's Playground, below. (1958).

This photo was taken very shortly before my poor brother lost the camera he is holding - a present for his 8th birthday. A Kodak Instamatic.
There was not a lot of sympathy for his loss, to put it mildly.
Nicholas and I have different versions of the fallout but either way it wasn't pretty.
Poor guy.

Poor quality shot of The Golden Hind, Sir Francis Drake's ship.
There was a diorama in that white castle thing that was compelling but scary to me as a kid. I don't remember what it was. Perhaps Sir Francis Drake and friends?
