Paper Dolls!

I was obsessed OBSESSED with paper dolls. I probably started playing with them at 6 or 7 in England but my true obsession started at 10 and went until probably 13 and a half. If I couldn't buy them (short of the 29 cents they cost ) then I drew them - and I've kept a lot of them to share! They all had very real personalities to me - their names are still obvious me the way that people's names would be. So.........these are paper dolls that I owned and played with. My collection stopped when I stopped drawing them and playing with them - I've never been moved to buy as collectibles. These paper dolls were favorites. I had them in England - they're probably early sixties. "The Bride" looked very American to me and so that was her role for years. Her name , given by me, was Jill.

Groom and Clothes

The poor groom has lost his feet but he didn't really matter much anyway. In the paper doll world it's the women and children that were the ones I cared about - the men were all kind of dopey, uncool looking background figures that showed up as occasional love interests but were mostly relegated to the background. The best man has gone missing but the brown suit was his. My memory is that he looked exactly like the groom!

Paper dolls from England (although some of these clothes don't look very English to me!) Early 1960s.
