Mary Ann (Polly) (Pearson) King born September 25, 1844 .Married James King, Oct - Dec 1867 in Ulverstone, UK. . This picture was taken very close to the end of her life.She was married to James King and the mother of Mary King born in 1872 and other, as of now, unknown children. Mary King, my husband's Great Grandmother. Written on the back: Fair, fat and forty! Wishing you a very Happy & Prosperous New Year. Dec.31st, 1912. The photographer is: George J. France South Beach Blackpool Happy New Year 2010! and hmmm, if the census is correct - and I am too - she is actually 42 here. Or maybe it was taken 2 years earlier and she's blurring the line.

c1918? Harry was born in 1895, and was in the war. He looks younger here than I had previously thought.

Mary King married Algernon Dodgson - and then apparently left him and took her name back. Her son was Harry King.

Mary was Harry's mother but there is some mystery about her name. The story was that she married someone called Algernon Dodson but somehow he left the picture and she reverted to her maiden name. My skeptical mother-in-law told me this story believing (I think) that he was illegitimate. According to her, this side of the family considered themselves "a cut above" so it probably mildly galled her. I have done some fairly surface searches for Algernon but have never come up with anything. For all I know it could be a true story - one more thing to do when I have time!
