A little mottled but still a sweet portrait of a pleasant faced woman. Found in Vermont - no markings.

Harry King with Rocking Horse

06 Jan 2009 232
Taken in Ulverston. On the back it says Jones Bros. Dragley Beck Lane (great street name!) Ulverston I'm guessing he's 5 in this picture making it 1900.

Mary King c1895

07 Jan 2009 180
Mary was Harry's mother but there is some mystery about her name. The story was that she married someone called Algernon Dodson but somehow he left the picture and she reverted to her maiden name. My skeptical mother-in-law told me this story believing (I think) that he was illegitimate. According to her, this side of the family considered themselves "a cut above" so it probably mildly galled her. I have done some fairly surface searches for Algernon but have never come up with anything. For all I know it could be a true story - one more thing to do when I have time! Born in the early 1870s to James and Mary (Polly) King. One of my children's Great Great Grandmothers. The Boys>Brian>Ron>Harry>Mary King.

Harry King c1899

I've always liked her intelligent, sensitive face.

Edna Earp

28 Jan 2009 243
Edna was the second sibling and the oldest sister. She is the little girl in the photo titled "Stamford Hill" in my photostream. This picture, like the other Earp pictures, was sent from England to Australia and then to me from Erin (Earp) Hobson. She looks very serious but my mother remembers all her girl cousins as loud, lively, warm and very funny.

Ivy Earp - again

28 Jan 2009 211
Ivy Earp - a little less glam but still striking. Sent to me by Erin Hobson in Australia. Originally sent from England to Ausralia sometime in the 1920s. Ivy's brother Edwin had emigrated there and relatives sent pictures from home.

Olive Earp

28 Jan 2009 163
Olive was the third sibling and second sister. My mother remembers her as the most "refined".

Another picture sent to Australia to the Earps and then to me. I love the sweetness of this picture. My Auntie Pearl was a lovely person -a strong personality and a great storyteller with a wonderful laugh. I used to love to visit.

Jane (Double) Major 1819 - 1912

12 Dec 2008 236
Jane Major is my Great Great Grandmother. She was born in Buxhall, Suffolk in November 1819 and she died in Stowmarket, Suffolk in Jan - March 1912 at the age of 93.(Free BMD says she was 96.) in a poorhouse - although I think she had worked there when younger. She was the daughter of Henry Double and Susan Purr also of Buxhall, Suffolk. She married William Major and they had 4 children one of whom was my great grandmother also called Jane born in 1853. She is one of my children's Great Great Great Grandmothers. The Boys>Deborah Lundbech>Hazel (Gregory) Lundbech>Marie Rose (Hellyer) Gregory>Jane (Major) (Davys) Hellyer>Jane (Double) Major
