The Men's Club Outing

20 Dec 2008 214
Our Woodlands Avenue fathers belonged to a Men's Club (a beer club more likely - they met at the Weir!) and once a year they hired a coach to take us to the seaside - a really big deal for us. This was probably taken about 1961. My mother had curled my hair the night before and I was very proud of my curls. Woodlands Avenue was a dead end street, which really created a very, very strong sense of neighborhood. Ex- 50s and 60s Woodlands Avenuers (Rayleigh, Essex, England) are all over the world now, but many of us have connected through various on-line sites - and the incredibly strong memories of that time are part of who we all are today.
