Here's a "twofer". Uploaded for the Vintage Photos Theme Park theme of: SOMETHING INTERESTING OR SURPRISING IN THE BACKGROUND (Rayleigh Windmill) *AND* The monthly topic of: QUAINT, CHARMING, PICTURESQUE (Dutch Cottage) When I was growing up in Rayleigh, we used to pass this cottage all the time as we climbed up Crown Hill from the train station. However, I had never seen this view before, as it was taken from the back of the cottage - and I can see that from two things. First, Crown Hill Road is viewed to the right of the house (there was no road behind it) and second, Rayleigh windmill is pictured behind the house in a view only possible from behind! It is currently owned by a local Council who rent it out on the condition that the public can come in and view it on given days. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dutch_Cottage I think this postcard was probably taken in the 1920s. The postcard below was taken in the 1970s and shows the front of the cottage.
