Te Toki a Tapiri is the last of the great Maori war canoes (Waka). With the hull adzed from a single huge totara log, the canoe is 25 metres long and can carry 100 warriors. It was built in about 1836 for Te Waaka Tarakau who lived in Hawke's Bay and is named after Tapiri, a famous ancestor of Tarakau. Auckland Museum, Auckland, New Zealand.

This pataka was the property of Maori chief Te Pokiha Taranui. Many figures on the porch represent well-known ancestors of his tribe. The pataka was completed in the early 1870s and stood at Maketu in the Bay of Plenty for many years. Apart from its use as a storehouse it was intended to symbolise the status and power of Te Pokiha.
