Maori War Canoe

Maori War Canoe
Te Toki a Tapiri is the last of the great Maori war canoes (Waka). With the hull adzed from a single huge totara log, the canoe is 25 metres long and can carry 100 warriors. It was built in about 1836 for Te Waaka Tarakau who lived in Hawke's Bay and is named after Tapiri, a famous ancestor of Tarakau.
