Former HSBC, Bodmin - 18 July 2020

A former branch of HSBC, 3 Fore Street, Bodmin. Based on the information on a rather weary looking piece of paper in the window, this branch probably closed as long ago as 2015. 200_3_P1130099E

Limelight Accountancy, Haslemere - 29 June 2020

Limelight Accountancy, 99 Wey Hill, Haslemere. Apart from being a useful record shot from Haslemere, this shows yet another former bank. This was formerly a branch of Lloyds and may also have operated as a Lloyds TSB whilst they were amalgamated. 200_3_P1120984CE

AbiCAD - 1 June 2019

This surprising renovation of 56 Botley Road, Park Gate is an advertisement for its new occupants. AbiCAD is a company using AutoCAD in design for commercial roofing and cladding projects. The building was previously a branch of NatWest Bank. 5300_DSC_0097E

Former Lloyds Bank, Hythe - 28 December 2018

Hythe in Kent is one of the many UK towns which has been affected by bank closures. Only Santander and Nationwide remain. Bank branch closures are an emotive subject for many, including myself, but the Closing Branch Review, available online, makes sobering reading and one can understand the underlying commercial decision. 200_3_P1090136CE

Hythe Tanning Vault - 28 December 2018

Hythe in Kent is one of the many UK towns which has been affected by bank closures. Only Santander and Nationwide remain. 47 High Street, now the whimsically named Hythe Tanning Vault, was until about two years ago, a branch of HSBC. Directly opposite is Bank Street and on its corner stands a former Lloyds. I imagine the observant and curious visitor of the future will wonder about the street name. 200_3_P1090133C

The Bank, Plymouth - 22 May 2018

24 May 2018 84
This building, at the end of Old George Street (nr Derry's Cross) in Plymouth accommodates, rather stylishly The Bank pub and restaurant. Unsurprisingly, it was formerly a bank, built for Lloyds in 1889 and attributed to Pevsner. What is remarkable is that it survives at all in an area heavily bombed during WWII. Some of the damage done after the war can be glimpsed (right) in the form of the hideous Theatre Royal car park. TZ30_P1050090CE

Lloyds Bank, Cheriton & Shorncliffe Branch (closed…

07 Oct 2017 117
Closed banks are an increasingly common sight in our towns and cities as the financial services sector continues to make controversial decisions. This was the Cheriton & Shorncliffe (Folkestone) branch of Lloyds Bank at 36 Cheriton High Street which closed on 19 April 2016. 200_3_P1030397R
