A Farewell Five, Cotswold Airport (2) - 27 October…

The Covid pandemic hastened the final withdrawal from service with British Airways of the B747-400 and the remaining aircraft were widely dispersed with the last two Heathrow based examples leaving the London airport on 8 October 2020, one to St Athan and the other to Cotswold Airport.
The weather nearly three weeks later at the Gloucestershire airport was very wet and challenging for photography but I managed a handful of passable shots of the aircraft most easily seen. Five were lined up alongside the A429 and are (from camera) G-BYGB, G-BYGF, G-CIVL, G-CIVJ and G-CIVN.

G-BYGB at DFW - 27 November 2019

Conscious of the fact that I have added relatively little to my own group 'Farewell to the BA B747-400' , I felt I really should make the effort with G-BYGB seen here on gate D11 at DFW being prepared for the BAW/BA192 to LHR (inbound as BAW/BA193). There are some curious reflections, notably bottom left, but I think it was worthwhile for an otherwise powerful night time shot.

G-BYGB approaching Heathrow - 3 August 2014

To contrast with the preceding photograph, this is a better picture and an equally important record shot for different reasons. The British Airways B747-400 is in its final years in service. In my opinion, the type looks beautiful in flight whether on departure or, as here, on approach and I will miss it. G-BYGB was seen from Kensington heading towards Heathrow at around 8am on a Sunday morning.

This shot has been included because this is how many people will remember the B747-400 when it is gone. Nose in to the terminal, it makes an impressive sight. This is G-BYGB at Heathrow T5.

This shot is not quite as successful as I hoped but there are constraints to shooting from the terminal. Here, G-BYGB at Heathrow T5B frames G-CIVX on the C gates.
