This is Lambeth - 25 September 2013

I used to live in London, perhaps less than half a mile from this street. It was not without difficulties then but, in the intervening years, the boroughs, TfL, the Mayor's office and social factors have come together to make it much worse. Away from the West End, which itself lacks a little polish these days, the urban/suburban crossover creates many unpleasant scenes. Parking is a nightmare and public transport crowded and, in the case of the buses, at the mercy of the traffic. In this area, where I have a monthly meeting, I do not know of a single public car park. Pay parking is to be found amongst a forest of residents spaces which, of course, stand unused for many hours of the day. Furthermore, a scene such as this, caused in part by residents/shopkeepers and in part by poor cleansing policies, is not at all unusual. This is Lambeth. TZ30_P1010262

Bike Hangar - 25 September 2013

In the latest bit of pandering to urban cyclists, so-called bike hangars have been introduced in residential streets in Lambeth and, presumably, elsewhere, using valuable parking spaces. This example, occupying two former spaces, is in Handforth Road, SW9 and is a collaboration between Lambeth and a private company. Storage costs £42 a year. The tree islands are also new. Property Hunting - 25 September 2013

As you will know, I don't like people in my photographs except when they are essential to the composition as in this case. Here, on the way from a meeting to dinner, the juxtaposition of striking window display and hopeful couple just said 'photograph'. Night shots are difficult especially at my skill level and exposure can be tricky so it is what it is. X20_DSCF2273
