Finsbury Town Hall (1895) on Rosebery Avenue administered the Metropolitan Borough of Finsbury which was amalgamated in 1965 with the Metropolitan Borough of Islington to form the the London Borough of Islington. The building today houses the Urlang Academy as well as providing event space. What attracted me to the building is the wonderful art nouveau stained glass and wrought iron entrance canopy. 200_2_P1040413

If one were to ask people 'when did the UK elect its first Asian MP?', I doubt that many would answer correctly '1892'. This plaque can be found outside Finsbury Town Hall in Rosebery Avenue. My chance sighting of this important plaque when photographing the building led me to the Wikipedia entry on Dadabhai Naoroji which is well worth a read. 200_2_P1040414C
