The United B747-400s are to be withdrawn by the end of 2018. For the time being however, the type is a common sight at San Francisco. An unidentified example dominates a busy scene at the 28L/R holds as a JetBlue A320 and Delta B717 N935AT wait for the runway(s). For the sharp-eyed, I think the winglet of the aircraft of which part appears to the far left identifies it as an American B737-800. 200_2_P1100343

United B737-700 N14731 at Orange County. In addition to the usual documentary nature of this shot there is a story behind this impending flight. The intended destination of this aircraft was Houston [IAH] but the city was experiencing severe flooding, after a reported 16in of rain had fallen. The cabin crew were deplaned at Orange County and the flight crew remained on board to position the aircraft to Sacramento as UAL/UA2145. The aircraft was in position for a long time after an already delayed push-back from Gate 11 and slightly delayed the inbound UAL/UA5965 from SFO which would operate UAL/UA5794 back to SFO. 200_2_P1100106E
