Some of the best photographs are unplanned and by best I do not mean technically but those which make one happiest. I have already written that I like the wide variety of lizards living in South Florida. At the upper end of the lizard size scale come the iguanas and I absolutely love them. We were driving around the perimeter road at North Perry Airport primarily, as you might imagine, to see aircraft when we came across at least three iguanas near the road. Unfortunately, I successfully photographed only one as another did not care for the car idling so close and made in a semi-dignified fashion for the slightly taller vegetation and nearby water. On this occasion, I did not take any aircraft pictures at North Perry but I was very happy. 200_3_P1080334

Iguana My biggest thrill at Zoo Miami was seeing, unexpectedly, some iguanas which, as far as I could tell, were feral, not exhibits. They were simply in the planted vegetation. As I have written, I love the smaller lizards but to see something like this close up is wonderful. 200_3_P1040698

Following the delight of our sightings in Puerto Rico (which were half expected) I was thrilled to come unexpectedly across more iguanas in Martinique. It was quite a challenge getting the animal in focus through so much foliage. If you can imagine a wider shot, you might get some idea of how effective the iguana's colouring is as camouflage. 200_P1010767
