A Morris 8 in Ryde (Sepia) - 29 April 2015

As I often do, I have posted the original of this (previous picture) to provide the contemporary document but also this alternative version to suggest something of an imagined past. Morris 8 EDL798 was in Park Road, Ryde. 200_2_P1040571_Sepia1

MOTAT (24S) - 21 February 2015

25 Apr 2015 141
For me, the highlight of MOTAT (Museum of Transport and Technology) in Auckland is its collection of trams which include those running on the Western Springs Tramway between MOTAT, Auckland Zoo and the Aviation Museum. This is my period treatment of Melbourne & Metropolitan Tramways Board W2 No. 321 of 1925 which has just run out of the shed to enter service for the afternoon. 200_2_P1030189_Sepia

Timeless Caen - 23 April 2014

03 May 2014 2 122
There are so many places you go where you can step back in time but, often, the broad sweep of a modern photograph reveals so much of the present day. After my recent visit to Caen, I thought I would have a bit of fun by adding to my many contemporary images of the city with this edited view of Église Saint-Pierre from Caen Castle. If one does not take a magnifying glass to the background, this view will not have changed much in hundreds of years. 200_P1020463PM2

The Twilight of the 23cm (SOOC) - 13 November 2013

13 Nov 2013 266
Sometimes, a photograph just looks right, perhaps more so when it means something to one which is difficult to convey to a wider audience. The 23cm radar at Heathrow has been withdrawn from use and its site is earmarked for development but still it stands. This sepia-effect shot is SOOC (although the format is, of course, a crop). It is a very long shot from the north side of the Bath Road and I rather liked the glinting car in the foreground. P1190062C

Llangollen Railway_004 - 29 June 2013

Llangollen Station Heritage railways go a long way to allowing us to imagine or relive what lines and stations were like many years ago. Inevitably there are details in backgrounds or even foregrounds which betray the date of a photograph. Sepia can lend some timelessness to a picture and is used here partially to disguise a disappointing cone on the platform. Nevertheless, it does not take much to be transported back in time.
