More than four years after my last visit to the Great Central Railway, it was worth braving persistent rain to provide an updated document of the state of preservation at Loughborough Central. Steam and diesel benefit equally from the excellent work there. Although the weather was at it worst during this part of the visit, British Railways Standard Class 2 2-6-0 78018 and Class 9F 2-10-0 92214 'Leicester City' both looked good. 200_3_P1080996CE

Viewed with care, this photograph shows detail even in the shadows. It was difficult to expose correctly. One of the mouthwatering line-ups at Loughborough was of King Arthur Class 4-6-0 777 'Sir Lamiel', BR Standard Class 9F 92214 and 'Peak' D123. 200_P1040646

BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 could be the poster child for the Great Central Railway. In spite of my earlier comments about locomotives in 'working condition', this looked just magnificent standing at Loughborough with King Arthur Class 4-6-0 777 'Sir Lamiel'. 200_P1040642

Another view at Loughborough shows how exciting the locomotive collection on the Great Central Railway is. The sole steam example in this picture is (far left) BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 92214 with Class 45 D123 in front. Class 31 D5830 is seen in rare 'Golden Ochre' livery with Class 20 D8098, Class 08 13101 and Class 10 10119. 200_P1040633
