Former Midhurst Whites Brickworks - 18 August 201…

To hunt down former railway infrastructure is both exciting and frustrating even when the internet and books give some idea of what to expect. Sources often contain inaccuracies and there is nothing quite like being on the ground. In the vicinity of the former LSWR Midhurst station, I was given some very helpful information on other things to see. These included this gritty example of industrial architecture. Now in commercial use, this building formed part of the Midhurst Whites Brickworks. Adjacent to the railway, the brickworks also had its own railway system on three levels.

Sources often contain inaccuracies and there is nothing quite like being on the ground. I was given a great deal of helpful information by a man from M B Motors (left) but such is the extent of change in Midhurst that it is all but impossible properly to visualise the past. Station House is much modified but incorporates the former LSWR station. I saw some remnants of track but they would not have made very good pictures.

Former Railway Cottages - 18 August 2014

To hunt down former railway infrastructure is both exciting and frustrating even when the internet and books give some idea of what to expect. Sources often contain inaccuracies and there is nothing quite like being on the ground. This photograph in Midhurst is on the alignment of the former railway only a short distance from the former LSWR station. These, I think, are the (much modified) LSWR staff cottages although I stand to be corrected as the LB&SCR cottages are also extant in the area.
