Two EMUs at Eastleigh - 30 June 2020

01 Jul 2020 73
Underlining as well as anything my recent comments about variety at Eastleigh, this shot shows Class 319 emu 319373 and an unidentified Class 442 unit. It is quite fascinating to see how things move (or are moved) around between visits even when those visits are quite close together. There was all sorts of stock outside today. It was raining in a way quite inappropriate to the date. I shot through it. 200_3_P1120996E

Former Gatwick Express Class 442 at Eastleigh - 5…

06 Jun 2020 1 81
The scene at Eastleigh changes quite rapidly and I visit only infrequently, relying to some extent on Flickr friend davidhann34016 and to some extent on impulse to motivate my visits. It offers, arguably, the greatest variety of motive power and rolling stock to be seen anywhere in the UK. On this occasion Class 442 emu 2407 still in Gatwick Express livery could be seen with another unit behind. 200_3_P1120769CE

Class 442 at Waterloo - 31 May 1988

One of the best preserved of my photographs from the 1980s depicts one of the great survivors of emus in the south. Class 442 has been through several incarnations and returned to what is now South Western Railway in 2019. 2404 was seen in Network SouthEast livery at Waterloo more than 30 years earlier and would have been, I imagine, on a Bournemouth service. 880917A_310588

442402 at Fratton (2) - 10 November 2018

10 Nov 2018 102
Now 30 years old, the much re-purposed Class 442 units introduced by Network SouthEast now find themselves with South Western Railway for services between Waterloo and Portsmouth Harbour which are currently in the charge of Classes 444 and 450 Desiros, some of which can be seen in the background. 442402 is seen at Fratton Traincare Depot in an intermediate livery before receiving the full livery of the franchise which began operations in 2017. 200_3_P1080558E
