Memories of Ayr Depot (4) - 16 October 1985

19 Apr 2020 2 64
Stalwarts of Scottish motive power at the time, Class 26 locomotive 26014 and Class 20171. Taken in the days when depots were many, usually had locomotives and when a courteous request to look round was usually met with a courteous and affirmative reply. Ayr Depot is a little to the south of Newton-on-Ayr station. This is the fourth in a series of rediscovered photographs being scanned during lockdown and, I hope, bringing as much joy to those thus confined as they do to me. 851614_161085E

Past Tense and Future Perfect - 5 January 2020

05 Jan 2020 1 96
On a cold, grey day which this picture does not capture, the future of the Mid-Hants Railway, closed seasonally in January, looked bright. The sidings at Ropley contained several of the railway's locomotives and other stock with Class 47 47579 'James Nightall GC' and Class 20 D8059 prominent. 200_3_P1120129C

D8059 at Ropley (1) - 15 October 2019

The beautifully preserved Class 20 D8059 arrived on the Mid Hants Railway in July 2019 from the Midland Railway - Butterley for 'an extended stay'. It is seen here idling at Ropley with the cab occupied but did not move during my short visit. 5300_DSC_1498C

It is interesting to photograph the sidings from time to time as the stock gets moved around. 5300_DSC_1500R

Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway (11) - 4 August 2019

Class 20 is a favourite of mine from a distant past in regular operation. Many survive in varied uses; 20020 is at Bo'ness, Bo'ness & Kinneil Railway. TZ70_P1000830CE

Against a threatening sky, assorted locomotives and stock at Bo'ness looked pretty splendid. With a centrepiece of Class 20 20020, the picture includes a North British shunter and Class 37 37214 in fading maroon livery. TZ70_P1000829R

Great Central Railway (61) - 6 December 2018

More than four years after my last visit to the Great Central Railway, it was worth braving persistent rain to provide an updated document of the state of preservation at Loughborough Central. The hard work done there is evident and shown here by Class 20 D8098. 200_3_P1080984

Another view at Loughborough shows how exciting the locomotive collection on the Great Central Railway is. The sole steam example in this picture is (far left) BR Standard Class 9F 2-10-0 92214 with Class 45 D123 in front. Class 31 D5830 is seen in rare 'Golden Ochre' livery with Class 20 D8098, Class 08 13101 and Class 10 10119. 200_P1040633
