Roman Theater, Aspendos, Turkey

06 Dec 2024 23 12 200
Remarkable condition. My photo for the Sunday group with the theme "theatre". Standing inside this area brings back visions of gladiators fighting, actors bellowing, spectators cheering or booing. It is still in use for special music and theatrical events. Image processed with GIMP. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Roman_Theatre_of_Aspendos

Fortress, Bodrum, Turkey (HWW)

15 Feb 2023 30 13 331
Our view across the bay of the fortress at Bodrum. Called the Bodrum Castle. Quite impressive. Do look up the history in Wikipedia (for instance). The castle was built using the ruins of the famous Tomb of ancient history. Image processed with GIMP.

Windmills, Bodrum, Turkey (HWW)

20 Apr 2022 30 8 459
In the heights overlooking the port of Bodrum, Turkey, we visited these interesting windmill structures. Image from Nikon D80 in raw, processed by RawTherapee, later by GIMP.

Along the Bosporus (HFF)

01 Apr 2022 23 9 350
During our cruise along the Bosporus, we saw some really big homes. Some of these had been palaces, we were told. Not sure on this one, but quite a pile. Image processed with GIMP.

Old Walls of Ephesus (HWW)

30 Mar 2022 12 8 363
More ruins on the hills above Ephesus (which are great ruins in themselves.) Image processed with GIMP.

Benches to View Bosporus Tanker (HBM)

20 Mar 2022 28 12 385
Taken during that quick visit to the Bosporus on our cruise in 2016. This is one of the few areas I photographed that had benches for people to sit and enjoy all of the activity on the water. There were a lot of tankers in this narrow area. For the Sunday Challenge, this depicts contrast: a huge tanker ship, and the small human figures in the foreground. Image processed with GIMP.

Along the Bosporus (HWW)

09 Mar 2022 22 9 267
Taken as we cruised the Bosporus. These fortifications are quite impressive. (We were not allowed to leave the ship in Istanbul, so this cruise up to the Black Sea was a "consolation prize". The views are very interesting, and apparently cruise ships rarely travel this far above Istanbul.) Image processed with GIMP.
