Far newer than the others in this series / album. It wasn't there on my previous visit in 2015. The path from the road to Bosigran Head, Zennor Parish, Cornwall.

Bosigran Head and Carn Galva tin mine.

Bosigran, Zennor, Cornwall. South West Peninsula Coast Path. The remains of neolithic field walls said to be the oldest stone constructions still used for their original purpose and possibly up to 8,000 years old.

Situated at Bosigran, Zennor, Cornwal. This wasn't a particularly successful tin mine and closed in the 1870s after only a couple of decades of mediocre production. The count house was the Stannary Office for the Crown and controlled mining licences and purity / quality / weight issues, etc. This one was the official mining office for a wide area, not just for this one mine. It is now a hostel for adventure groups, climbers, kayakers, walkers and the like. I have stayed here with my old uni pals on sea-cliff climbing holidays and had a great time, helped by the fact that I had / have family up the road! In the background are Commando Ridge and Bosigran Head, both excellent climbing areas and, of course, the Atlantic Ocean. For Pam.

Carn Galva, Carn Galver tin mine, The Count House and Rosemergy Farm. Commando Ridge can just be seen too. The weather can change here in the blink of an eye. My car was down there and I recall driving home in thick fog!

For Pam. I find it annoying when the map locator has the wrong place name. Pendeen is two parishes away away and Zennor residents would be miffed if they knew!

A bit of fantasy in the editing: it was actually a dull day, a bit of sun here and there but generally poor light quality. Gurnard's Head in the distance. Not much left of these iron age defences. For Pam.

A famous pioneering 19th century climb. The bottom pitches of a famous pioneering rock climb of Victorian times, seen from the top of Bosigran Cliffs. The area became a key commando training ground in WWII, hence the modern name of the climb. I can vouch for the fact that it is an extremely enjoyable climb at the lower end of Hard V Diff. I have seen it graded at V Diff. But I think it is a little bit harder than that!

A very early pioneering rock climb follows the line of the ridge you see here silhouetted against the sea.

A famous Cornish sea-cliff climbing area. I am on top of the main cliff at Bosigran, looking across to Commando Ridge, a pioneering route first climbed in the 19th century by the Abrahams; sister and brother (not the spiky islet but the jagged headland beyond). I climbed it, and also a few climbs on the main face of Bosigran with the university climbing club, many years ago! For some decades this was an SAS training ground, hence the name of the climb.

The Count House served as the Stannary Office for the tin mines of the area, not just this mine. All questions of tin quality, payments, licenses to mine, etc were dealt with here.

Located between the hill of Carn Galva seen here and the coast at Bosigran, in Zennor Parish, this was only in operation for a couple of decades in the mid to late 19th century. The ruin to the right is the pumping engine house for the mine.

As I have mentioned a couple of times before, those distant stone walls are thought to be some of the oldest continuously used stone structures (still used for their original purpose) anywhere in the world. (Possibly 7-8,000 years old).
