Rio Manzanares can just be seen trickling between the trees, with the millennium Bridge in the distance..

This old bridge crosses the mighty Rio Manzanares, Madrid's famed river.

Madrid, with the river in October awaiting the autumn rains. The ancient Puente de Toledo is in mid distance and behind is the Estadio Vicente Calderon, erstwhile home of Atletico de Madrid. I give classes close to the old stadium and now the only part still standing is the stand at the far left. Skyscrapers will replace the stadium. ... 'hooray' ... :o( I saw the Rolling Stones at the stadium in 1982, a good concert! A recent photo of mine taken from the bridge towards where I took this shot shows the river valley now filled with young trees, that weren't even saplings at this point in time (2011)! ... A quick change in 8 years.

Looking down to the Rio Manzanares (almost dry at this time of year) and towards the Millennium Bridge. This is a new walkway and pedestrian area following the river. 15 years ago this was a motorway but it has been cleverly buried beneath the river.

When built, it was some way outside the town walls but is now a very central Madrid location. A fierce wind was blowing. It was a southerly but it was cold. A very unusual meteorological occurance in Spain! That's why no one else was about! I had half an hour to kill before my next class so I thought I would go for a short and windy stroll!
