Vardø Street Art

13 Oct 2017 42 30 1172
In july 2012, Vardø hosted the world's most northern street art festival, curated by the artist Pøbel - KOMAFEST -. The purpose was to conceptualize the depopulation of northern Norway. Three years later I tried to capture this art. At least most of the work. Some were already painted over and some I just did not find. Bibliotheca

Travel and see new things. Or; look around and find new angles. The next uploads will be monochrome edits. Some will be new uploads and some will be reedited photographs. I hope that the comming monochrome 'period' will be received favorably. This is a photograph of the library in Tromsø and the RAW file is processed with PSE12. Mood; Hamningberg

30 Jun 2016 118 56 1869
This is a view of the landscape along the road from Vardø to Hamningberg, Finnmark in northern Norway. This is a narrow road, basically one car width, surrounded by sharp rock formations. We drove there on a clouded summer day with Deep Purple loudly in the speakes. That was a fitting combination. Dear friends this is the last colour upload for the time being. As you see in the image above the colour fades into monochrome. The following uploads wil be monochrome images. I feel the need to go back to my 'roots' but now with totaly different editing tools. I hope you'll enjoy those as much as you do the colourful ones. You will find the high resolution image here: 1x.com/photo/1031773 Lonely Man Photography © All Rights Reserved. Autumn Impression..

25 Jun 2016 109 42 1511
The colours of autumn can be gorgeous. Not only nature but the light as well. This impression is from one of my favorite locations called Ersfjord. The light here changes all the time, from deep blue/white in spring to orange/red in autumn. And do not forget the greens of the northern light. Just find those photographes in my gallery. Enjoy the weekend. You will find the high resolution image here: 1x.com/photo/1017650 Lonely Man Photography © All Rights Reserved. Made it to EXPLORE frontpage.

One more image from my little project from last summer. Summer is closing in and who knows what kind of photographic surprises are in store for us. Mood; Aurora Burst

20 Jan 2016 180 74 2979
High solar activity resulted in northern light across Europe, with up to 6 on the scale in norhern Europe. A sudden burst of activity during a 30'' exposure resulted in an over exposed image. But who cares if one is fortunate to experience a show like this.... You will find the high resolution image here: 1x.com/photo/1031770/all:user:505580 Lonely Man Photography © All Rights Reserved. Reindeer Project 6/7; Bull

22 Dec 2015 110 39 1691
Most appropriate to upload a reindeer photograph this time of the year. I do not know if this guy is doing his duty together with Santa Claus this year but quite a type he is. This photograph is part of a little project I had last summer. So yes, I do take wildlife photographes once in a while. Urban Aurora

04 Jan 2016 132 45 2471
Sometimes light pollution is unavoidable. But it is not said that one can not get a decent image. The northern light is not the main object anymore. But it is playing a role in the ambiance of the image. To give the streetlights a role in the image I used a small aperture so that they become nice stars. This means that the ISO value and exposure time must be higher and longer. The settings of the image above: ISO 800 30'' F/11 - ISO 3200 30'' F/22 - ISO 1600 30'' F/22. It is a 3 exposure hdr edit. I wish you all good light in the new year. Lonely Man Photography © All Rights Reserved. Made it to EXPLORE frontpage.

Nordic Light

18 Dec 2015 148 69 2072
1 place (2016/05) group Contest Without Prize 'Green'. I am far from being a professional northern light photographer but it hurts a little when I see people trying to make pictures of the northern light using automatic presets and a flash. So maybe I can come with some pointers for those who are trying to catch the aurora one time. The main thing is; keep it simple. What you need is a camera with manual settings, wide angle lens, a stable tripod, location, good clothes and some luck. Get to know your camera so that you are able to control the exposure time, the aperture, focus and the ISO settings. The ISO setting is most important as high settings often mean noise in your image. The amount of noise depends also on the qualitiy of the camera. Try to find out how much noise you can accept. For simpler cameras ISO 500 is perhaps the limit, for higher quality cameras ISO 3200 or higher is not any problem. The aurora is not a static phenomenon, it is moving and varies a lot in brightness. So when you have found the ISO values you are confortable with, it is a all about balancing the exposure time and the aperture. The aperture can be more of importance if there is light polution. A smaller aperture means a greater depth of field and light pollution, f.ex. streetlights, will be shown as a nice star instead of a spot. That brings me to the location. Try to find a place with a minimum of light pollution. That is hard to find even here in northern Norway when you are not in the middle of nowhere. Preferably use a wide angle lens.It makes it much easyer to cover a large part of the sky. As long as the aurora is the main focus, just set your focus on infinite. I learned that a good quality tripod is a necessity. Sometimes the exposure time can get quite long and when it is blowing the cheaper tripods are not stable enough. I hope this is of some help and I would appreciate comments and thoughts about this issue. The kit I use for aurora photographing: Canon EOS 6D (full frame for low noise when using higher ISO settings), Samyang ED AS IF UMC 14 (easy to use manual wide angle lens) and a stable tripod from Benro. The settings of the photograph above: ISO 640, exp. time 15'' and F/8. Don't forget the chocolate... Grense Jakobselv - The end of the road -

30 Nov 2015 66 46 1584
Now it is celebration time with a sour aftertaste. Today I reached 1,5 million views on Panoramio http://www.panoramio.com/user/6685358 . Because of all the problems with Google and their treatment of Panoramio and its users I had my last upload a couple of months ago. For that reason I publish my last PA upload here on Ipernity. It is a panoramic view of the land/sea-scape at the top point of Grense Jakobselv https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Grense_Jakobselv looking east at the Norwegian-Russian border. You see Russia in the far end of this picture. The image contains 4 HDR edited photographs (a total of 12 pictures). This picture is part of a little panorama project I had this summer. Pine in Midnight Sun

17 Nov 2015 95 59 1437
I've been thinking about what would be appropriate to upload. The last days of terror in Europe and the Middle East were all over the news. A midnight sun impression seems to be a good choice. Now we can warm up a litle before the winter truly starts. This was one of the few nights in july that the mosquitoes were abundant. So a tripod and setting a timer was necessary. Then I had to run and tried to lure the mosquitoes away from the camera. Even then the spot healing brush tool was used extensively afterwards. Lonely Man Photography © All Rights Reserved. Autumn Impression..

A northern Norwegian impression of autumn. Next; winter around the corner. This is the same place as my previous upload. The fence posts are still standing, But the function is a question mark. In this image the atmosphere is the main element. This in contrast to the previous image were the composition and lines are most important. In other words same place but another view. Nordic Spring - Emerge

I never heard about it before, Perhaps not strange as a newcomer to Ipernity. HFF seems to mean Happy Fence Friday. Last Spring I found myself a fence and it almost did not make it through the winter... Anyway, HFF wishes and please can some one enlighten me!
