Balsamroot and Sagebrush

This photo was taken by my wife on Manastash Ridge (see the previous photo) and shows some of the scrubby growth and wildflowers that are typical of the area. The flowers are the Arrowleaf Balsamroot, named for its scented roots, and the shrub I've not identified. The photo was taken early in the morning and I liked it better than any similar pictures I had taken for its tones. Pictures and a description of our hike can be found here: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2011/05/manastash-r...

Corallorhiza striata var. striata

These were photographed in the Chuckanut mountains south of Bellingham, Washington earlier this spring. The photo was taken by my wife and was one of the better shots of the excursion. Corallorhiza striata is also known as the striped Corallroot and is one of the prettier species in that genus. It blooms quite early in our area. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.com/2011/05/c...
