These hot springs, Wall Pool in the background and Black Opal Pool in the foreground are in Biscuit Basin in Yellowstone National Park. Both pools were created by a series of natural explosions in the 1920's and 1930's.

This is Black Opal Pool in Yellowstone National Park's Biscuit Basin. To my mind it is one of the most beautiful geothermal features of the park, both for its colors and its setting. Biscuit Basin is along the Firehole River and the pool empties into the river.

The well-named Black Opal Pool is in Biscuit Basin near the Firehole River on the southwest side of Yellowstone National Park. The basin was named for the unusual biscuit-like formations that once formed the main feature of the basin but which were destroyed by the 1959 Hebgen Lake earthquake. The Firehole River is in the background of the photo and there is a fisherman in the river near the bend.
