Traveling from Death Valley to Ash Meadows Wildlife Refuge we saw these sand dunes in the distance, but our information warned us of the danger of getting stuck without a four-wheel drive vehicle, so we had to be content to view them from a distance.

This wildflower was photographed along the road in the Amargosa Valley, Nevada, on the way from Death Valley National Park to Ash Meadows National Wildlife Refuge. Its botanical name is Stanleya pinnata. The inset shows a close-up of the flowers.
