This photo, taken by my wife with her phone, is a mule train just starting down the trail from Upper Cathedral Lake. There were, if I remember, six mules loaded with gear for trail maintenance.

We met this mule train coming up the South Kaibab trail in Grand Canyon. There are no roads into the canyon and the only way supplies (and sometimes visitors) reach the Phantom Ranch at the bottom of the canyon is on mules.
