Dendrobium christyanum

Dendrobium christyanum is from Thailand, Vietnam and China and has huge flowers for the size of the plant. My plant is about 5 cm tall and the flowers are about the same size. It belongs to the group of Dendrobiums known as nigrohirsute Dendrobiums, referring to the black hairs with which the plant is covered and it is sometimes found under the older name, Dendrobium margaritaceum It blooms in the summer and is temperature tolerant. The flowers are fragrant.

I've decided to post some pictures of my orchids, especially of those that have recently been blooming, and this is one of them, Dendrobium christyanum from China, Thailand and Vietnam. It belongs to a group of Dendrobium that have plants and leaves covered with short black hairs. The plant is a few inches tall and the flowers an inch. Dendrobium fuerstenbergianum

This is one of the nigrohirsute Dendrobiums. It has black hairs on the sheaths of the canes which can be seen in the photo. The flowers resemble Dendrobium margaritaceum, but the canes are much longer, 9-12 inches. It is native to Vietnam, China and Thailand.
