Last summer in early August we made a trip to Edmonton to see our daughter, son-in-law and grandchildren there and made a point of spending a day hiking in the area of Mount Robson, one of our favorite spots for hiking and backbacking. We hiked as far as the Whitehorn camp where we spend the first night if we are backpacking. Because it was August, the wildflowers were nearly finished, but we did see several native orchids, one we had not seen before. This photo was taken early in the morning as we started our hike. The mountain is not Mount Robson which is snow covered year around, but one of the other nearby peaks. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/09/the-berg-la...

Bloedel Conservatory

Several weeks ago my wife and I spent a day up in Vancouver, BC, and a good part of the day, which was wet and cold, at the Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park. The conservatory not only has a nice collection of plants, but also quite a number of tropical birds that have the run of the place, and, at the the time we were there, local artists were also exhibiting some of their work among the plants and birds. We enjoyed our visit and took a lot of pictures, some of which I'll be posting in the coming week. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2013/02/birds-flowe...

From Bloedel Conservatory in Queen Elizabeth Park, Vancouver, British Columbia. Many of these pictures were shot a a very high ISO because the light was so poor and are therefore much grainier than I would have liked. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2013/02/birds-flowe...
