This view across Crater Lake in Oregon has Mount Scott in the background. There is a trail to the top of the mountain and a lookout there, but the road on that side of the crater was still closed by snow when we were there in June.

The rim of the crater at Crater Lake National Park is at an altitude of 7-8000 feet (21-2400 m) and so the scenery and plants all alpine and the trees near the timberline. This tree was at one of the lookouts along the west rim drive.

We did not see a lot of birds in Crater Lake National Park but did see and photograph this Clark's Nutcracker at one of the turnouts along the West Rim Drive.

When we saw these on the Douglas Firs at Pass Island we thought they were new growth, but learned later that these are the male cones. We didn't recognize them as cones because the female cones are pendant and look like cones even when they are very tiny. These did not look much like cones.
