Canola Field and Sky

This is a typical scene in central Alberta in the summer, canola fields under a beautiful sky. We've been in Alberta a number of times recently to visit our daughter and her family there.

A lot of wheat and other grain is grown in Alberta but Canola is also a popular crop. This is a canola field under a summer sky.

This was taken from the farmland west of Spokane and looks east toward some heavy weather that was moving through the area. The buildings belong to the Eastern State Hospital complex and the city of Spokane is in the valley between this area and the mountains in the distance. I liked the contrast between the colors of the wheat fields in the foreground and the sky in the distance.

Another photo from one of our summer trips to eastern Washington. We love these wide open spaces, big skies and colorful fields. In the area where this was taken one is still quite near the Columbia River and its many dams and hydroelectric plants and the towers which carry the electricity to those who need it are common.

Dedicated to my good friend, Valter, the geometry teacher. Perhaps he can find one of the principles of Euclidian plane geometry illustrated in this photo.

We visited the Skagit Valley Tulip Festival for a while this morning - it was not the greatest day, but we came home with a lot of pictures.

Winter Fields from the Air

Taken on a trip east as we were landing in Denver early in the morning. Was intrigued by the patterns and colors and this was the best of my shots. There was just a dusting of snow and that tended to outline all the features of the ground while the early morning shadows increased the contrasts.

This is another photo taken on our recent trip home from Spokane. I was intrigued by the lines and colors and tried numerous shots from this vantage point. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/03/eastern-was...

Endless Tulips

This photo was taken in the gardens of Roozengaarde Bulb Growers but looks out beyond the garden to the fields of tulips that stretch away into the distance with the mountains very faintly visible in the background. This is one of our favorite spring outings and we rarely miss an opportunity to go, though this year we hit the Tulip Festival at its peak and the place was packed with people and cameras. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2012/05/skagit-vall...
