Photographed along the upper Lake Huron Shore, the Yellow Lady's Slippers are a different variety that we see in the west. It was nice to find them as we made our way from the thumb to the bridge.

While touring the Lake Huron shore of Michigan we found Yellow Lady's Slippers in bloom. They are the same species that grows in Washington but are much more common in Michigan.

This, the Northern Yellow Lady's Slipper, is one of the orchids we looked for (and found) on our hike to Grassi Lakes near Canmore, Alberta, Canada. Grassi Lakes was one of our places of interest on our 2014 trip through the Canadian Rockies.

It was in Banff that these photos of Yellow Lady's Slippers were taken. They were everywhere, often in large clumps, as the insets show (the first inset photo was taken by my wife).

This would probably be classified as Cypripedium parviflorum var. makasin, the Small Northern Yellow Lady's Slipper, but it is very doubtful that any of the flowers we saw at this location were pure species. These Yellow Lady's Slippers were growing in and among Mountain Lady's Slippers, Cypripedium montanum, shown in the second photo below, and there were flowers that were obviously natural hybrids of the two species, Cypripedium xcolumbianum, shown in the first photo below. nativeorchidsofthepacificnorthwest.blogspot.ca/2013/06/ninth-week-of-native-orchid-season.html

This is the Yellow Lady's Slipper, Cypripedium parviflorum var. pubescens. It was photographed near Tete Jaune Cache in British Columbia. Most of the flowers were finished and this one is nearly finished, but the color was still good and the crab spider was an additional attraction. We've been away on day trips - trying to take as much advantage of the summer as possible, thus the lack of posting. Monday I hiked the Yellow Aster Butte Trail - ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/07/yellow-aste... - near Mount Baker with a friend and Thursday my wife and I went "orchid hunting" in the Olympics.
