This was the grand view from the Mumm Basin trail the last night of our backpacking trip to Mount Robson Provincial Park. We had set up camp at Robson Pass and hiked up the Mumm Basin trail for this view of the valley below. From right to left are Robson Glacier, Rearguard Mountain, Berg Glacier and Berg Lake and Mount Robson.

This was Mount Robson and the top of Berg Glacier from the Mumm Basin trail as the light faded and the clouds moved in. We would leave because of cloudy weather and the threat of rain the next day.

After setting up camp at Robson Pass and eating a quick meal we hiked up the Mumm Basin trail, a steep trail that took us up the other side of the valley from Mount Robson. We went up for the views of Mount Robson (more views in the inset photos), the glaciers and Berg Lake. It was a beautiful evening, but the next day would bring a heavy cloud cover and the threat of rain and we would hike out the whole 23 km bringing our hike to an end.

This is the view of Robson one gets from the north end of the lake near the Berg Lake campground. We did not stay here but hiked another 2 km to Robson Pass.

This photo and the insets were taken as we hiked the 2 km along the shore of Berg Lake to our campsite at Robson Pass. The hike along the lake is pleasant with very little elevation gain or loss and constant views of the lake and of Robson through the trees. This photo was taken by my wife with her phone.

This is a view of Berg Glacier from across Berg Lake. If camped or hiking near the lake the sound of the glacier calving into the lake can often be heard.

After hiking along the Robson River from Emperor we came down on to the flood plain below Berg Lake (still not visible) and hiked across it with Berg Glacier just coming into view and would continue on around the trees on the left of the photo to the shores of Berg Lake and the Marmot campsites. The closest peak in the photo is Rearguard Mountain with Mount Resplendent visible in the distance.

Taken on a 2009 backpacking trip in Mount Robson Provincial Park, this photo shows Mount Robson on a cloudless day, with Berg Lake below and the two glaciers that feed the lake, Berg Glacier curving down on the left and Mist Glacier on the far right of the picture with its glacial moraines. The photo was taken from the Mumm Basin trail.

This was taken by my wife on a five-day backpacking trip in Mount Robson Provincial Park in 2010. The Berg Lake area was our destination and camping site while we were there, though we day-hiked beyond. Berg Glacier is on the slopes of Mount Robson and this is only its lower end. Camped across the lake we could hear it calving during the night into the lake and in the morning there would be ice floating in the lake.

In Explore August 4, 2009, #92. The last day of our stay at Berg Lake we woke to clear skies and this view of the lake, the glacier and the mountain. The saying is that Mount Robson is completely visible only seven days out of the year. This must have been one of those seven days.

It was hard to stop taking pictures of Mount Robson the day the weather cleared. This picture is taken from Berg Camp at the north end of Berg Lake which can just be seen along with some of the icebergs floating on the lake.

In Explore August 7, 2009, #94. On the last day of our stay at Berg Lake we hiked to the west of Berg Lake, up and across the ridge that brought us to Hargreaves Lake and Glacier. The views of Mount Robson and Berg Lake were superb and the trail, though still snow-covered in places was a garden of wildflowers. All in all a fitting end to a wonderful trip.

This was taken last summer during a backpacking trip in the park. I've posted a diary of the trip with pictures at: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/05/mount-robso... . We plan to go again the beginning of July for a week of backpacking in the area.

In a few days we are headed for British Columbia and Alberta. We are going to see our son-in-law and daughter and new granddaughter Kaillyn who was born a couple of weeks ago. We are also going to take our vacation while there, a week's backpacking trip in Mount Robson Provincial Park. These pictures were taken in Mount Robson PP last summer while on a backpacking trip. A diary of that trip with pictures can be found at ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/05/mount-robso... . They're the last pictures I'll be posting until we return around the middle of July.

This was taken on the fourth day of our backpacking excursion in the Canadian Rockies. That day we hiked the Mumm Basin, Hargreaves Glacier trail and this view was taken from about 7000 feet across the valley from Mount Robson. From left to right are Robson Glacier, Wall Mountain, Berg Glacier, Mount Robson, and Berg Lake. A diary of the day's hike and more pictures can be found at: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/07/backpacking... This was published in the April, 2011, issue of Orchids, the magazine of the American Orchid Society, in an article titled "Taking Aim."
