This was the Lake Huron shore at Tawas Point, Michigan. We recently toured the Lake Huron shore from the thumb to the bridge and discovered two things, that Lake Huron is much clearer than Lake Michigan and that its shore is not sand dunes as is Lake Michigan's. We also found the water very high in the Great Lakes, in some places threatening homes and recreation areas and washing away beaches. These photos illustrates what we found.

I've posted here photos of three more lighthouses we saw on our tour of Lake Huron's west shore, this the Forty Mile Point Light near Presque Isle, Michigan. Not only is this light still active but has a light keeper living in the house. Completed in 1896, it has a fourth order Fresnel lens.

This was the lighthouse at the north end of Presque Isle, Michigan, the tallest and most impressive of the lighthouse we saw and photographed. Completed in 1871 the light is a third order Fresnel lens.

This was the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse on the west shore of Lake Huron. We toured there recently and visited a number of lighthouses. Built in 1840 it is one of the oldest surviving lighthouse on the Great Lakes.

While in Michigan recently we went for several days along part of the Lake Huron shore with one of our sons and his wife. Tawas Point State Park and the lighthouse there was our first stop. We were surprised at the high water levels of the lake. Part of this park was flooded including most of the trails, the beaches were gone and what was not flooded was threatened by the rising water. The water levels on the Great Lakes fluctuate in cycles, however, and I remember the same thing happening when I was a boy living in Michigan.

This is Tawas Point on Lake Huron, part of the state park of that name and the site of one of the many lighthouses along the Lake Huron shore. We were there with one of our sons and his wife.

This photo shows how rising waters have inundated much of the Lake Huron Shore. Here at Tawas Point State Park most of the trail and many of the beaches were under water or washed away.

This was the lighthouse at Big Sable Point on Lake Michigan's eastern shore. We were there to photograph the sunset and had the bonus of storm forming over the lake and moving away to the north.

Last week I went with my youngest brother and a friend to Ludington State Park and the Big Sable Lighthouse there. We went to photograph the sunset but witnessed a storm forming over the lake and moving toward the north of us. This was the tail of the storm just before sundown.
