Early Morning in Whitehorn Basin

Having spent the night camping in Whitehorn Basin, we had our breakfast of instant oatmeal and coffee and packed up our tent, sleeping bags and other gear, and before setting off for Berg Lake took some early morning photos of the basin. It was wonderful to see the sun after hiking the previous day under threatening skies. We had a beautiful day for hiking ahead of us and would hike in the general direction of the snow-covered peak in the background and up the valley of the Robson River. The previous night, however, I had decided that we were not going on with our hike. My wife had several blisters on her feet (which we fixed with duct tape) and I was exhausted from hiking all day, but we both felt better in the morning and she especially wanted to go on, so on we went.

Taken by my wife from the bridge in the previous photo, this is Whitehorn Basin. We camped just to the right of the photo, sending one night there. This involved setting up our backpacking tent with sleeping bags and pads, filtering water for our evening meal and for breakfast, cooking our evening meal (freeze-dried) with coffee or tea over a small stove, exploring the area, fixing my wife's blistered feet with duct tape, and going to bed early.

Having climbed Whitehorn Hill and hiked 11 km, our first backpacking trip in several years, it was wonderful to come to the bridge over the Robson River and to our campground which lay just beyond. We would camp there for the night before setting off again the next morning to do another 13 km to Berg Lake and our campsite at Robson Pass.
