This is another wildflower from Joshua Tree National Park, Freckled Milkvetch, a palnt with very unusual seedpods (see insets). These were found along the road to the Wall Street Mill trailhead.

These are the seedpods of the Freckled Milkvetch, a very unusual plant we found along the Braker Dam Road in Joshua Tree National Park. The pods are hollow and the seeds rattle inside.

On our recent hike we found a few plants of this wildflower, one we had not seen before. Known as Woolly-pod Locoweed, Woolly-pod Milkvetch or Pursh's Woolly-pod, Astragalus purshii grows only in the dry Juniper and Sagebrush areas.
