Immature Red Banded Polypore (Fomitopsis pinicola)

This photo was taken on our recent field trip with the Washington Native orchid Society - the forest was very dry at the time, there was no dew or moisture on any of the plants except this immature shelf fungus. When we returned the next day we found the same thing and can only guess that the temperature of the fungus was cooler than the temperature of the air, causing the drops of water to form.

We went to Whidbey Island today to see the very rare Ozette Coralroot (shown below) in bloom at the Pacific Rim Campus of the Au Sable Institute. South of Oak Harbor we passed a field where a farmer was cutting hay and had the opportunity to photograph a number of bald eagles foraging for rodents in the cut hay. This eagle is not quite mature as is evident from the brown color on his tail. Immature Bald Eagle

Taken earlier this spring at the same time as the picture below. This eagle is about two years old and is in the process of developing his or her white head and white tail.
