Lake Louise

In the summer of 2014 we traveled through the Canadian Rockies and visited Lake Louise. We made sure we arrived at Lake Louise early in the morning and found a place to park before walking to the back of the lake. By the time we came back the place was overflowing with cars and people and were only to happy to drive on through Banff and into Jasper and Robson. Until now I'd not gotten around to posting photos from that trip.

This photo is from a 2014 trip through Banff and Jasper National Parks. I've not had opportunity before to post photos from that trip, but early one morning we visited Lake Louise (before rush hour) and walked to the back of the lake.

Taken across Lake Louise from the trail along the other side of the lake, this photo is from a 2014 trip through Banff and Jasper. We made sure we were at Lake Louise, probably the most popular spot in the parks, before the crowds arrived.

These photos were taken from our hotel window. We are on our way to Edmonton and are traveling through the Canadian Rockies. We went through Kootenay National Park yesterday ending up in the town of Banff and in Banff National Park where we had booked a hotel. We usually sleep in the back of our car but the weather is too cold and wintry for that. The motel we are staying in looks out over the town with Mount Rundle across the way. The snow was blowing off the peak when we arrived and continued to to so until it was too dark to see.

We are traveling again - afraid that at our age if we ever stop we'll never get restarted. We spent the day in Kootenay National Park in British Columbia orchid hunting (six species in bloom), hiking and exploring and are now in Banff National Park in Canmore. We are on our way to Edmonton to see family and will be gone for nearly a month so posting may be sporadic. This was sunrise south of Radium Hot Springs.

Coming east on the Yellowhead Highway from Tete Jaune Cache, one is treated to endless views of Mount Robson in all its grandeur - if it is not hidden in the clouds. Even on a clear day like this Robson creates its own weather and is often capped with clouds. They say that it is completely visible only seven days a year, but even then it is awesome.

This picture was taken by my wife on the last day of our five day backpacking trip as we were hiking out. The mountain is Mount Robson where we camped and the picture is taken just south of the mountain and of Berg Lake which lies at the foot of the mountain. This picture, in my opinion, was the best of the whole trip and I am getting it specially printed and framed for her birthday.
A diary of our hike can be found on our blog. This is the address for the diary of the last day when this photo was taken: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/07/backpacking...

This was taken on the fourth day of our backpacking excursion in the Canadian Rockies. That day we hiked the Mumm Basin, Hargreaves Glacier trail and this view was taken from about 7000 feet across the valley from Mount Robson. From left to right are Robson Glacier, Wall Mountain, Berg Glacier, Mount Robson, and Berg Lake. A diary of the day's hike and more pictures can be found at: ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/07/backpacking... This was published in the April, 2011, issue of Orchids, the magazine of the American Orchid Society, in an article titled "Taking Aim."

We will be away for a couple of days visiting our handicapped son. I'll catch up on commenting when I return. Thanks to all my Flickr friends for their visits, comments and favorites.
