On our recent trip through Washington, Oregon and California we spent our first night in Blewett Pass south of Leavenworth, Washington, and spent some time in that area the next morning before traveling south through Yakima to the Columbia River Gorge. Before reaching the gorge we spent some time in Brooks Memorial State Park where we hunted for orchids and other wildflowers and did some hiking. This is Mount Hood (in Oregon) from one of the trails.

This is Mount Hood once again, this time from Panorama Point State Park on the east side of the mountain. We had started the day before on the west side of the mountain and had driven around the south and east sides through Mount Hood National Forest. After leaving the national forest and arriving at this state park we were northeast of the mountain and would soon cross the Columbia River back into Washington.

This was taken just before the sun went down and from a parking area along the highway south of Mount Hood. We had just finished our evening meal and would spend the night there, sleeping in the back of our van.

Several weeks ago, when we visited Mount Hood National Forest, we hiked to Mirror Lake. The lake was still mostly frozen over and there was a lot of snow at the lake but we managed some photos. This was taken from the west side of the lake after struggling around the lake through the snow.

Mount Hood is a "potentially active" volcano in the Cascade Mountains of Oregon. It is 11,249 feet (3,429 m) in elevation and lies just south of the Washington State border and the Columbia River. The photo was taken from the White River area on the southeast side of the mountain in the morning as the sun came up. We had spent the night there sleeping in our van after watching the sunset and after a long day of hiking and traveling. Mount Hood is the second most climbed mountain in the world and we could see the lights of climbers on the mountain before the sunrise. We had left early in the morning Wednesday and driven down to Mount Hood National Forest. We hiked two trails there, the Boulder Ridge and Mirror Lake trails, a total of about eight miles with about 2000 feet of elevation gain and followed Highways 26 and 35 around the west, south and east sides of Mount Hood. Breakfast was finished when this was taken and we were getting ready to drive the rest of the way around the east side and back over the Columbia River where we also spent some time hiking and doing photography before heading home.
