Geysers and hot springs are not the only things worth seeing in Yellowstone National Park. This Osprey (Fish Eagle) was photographed over the Firehole River in the Front Basin, the same basin in which Old Faithful is found.

We have a family of Ospreys nesting down the road from us each year. Last year they raised two chicks, this year only one and that one has now left the nest. The juvenile returns to the nest periodically, however, and these photos were taken at or near the nest.

This is a juvenile Osprey on the nest. It has been on its own now for several weeks but does return to the nest occasionally. The spotting on the wings identifies it as a juvenile, the chick that was raised on the next this year.

This is a juvenile Osprey, the chick that was raised this year on the nest down the road from us. It can fly but hangs around the nest and becomes upset when anyone approaches the nest.

Photographed yesterday, this was one of the Western Ospreys that nest near our home each year. They returned to the nest last week and have been on or near the next ever since. Their return is a sure sign of spring here.

Well named Fish Eagles, this adult Osprey had been fishing in Clear Lake nearby when the photo was taken.

Though the nest was far above us, these Western Osprey parents became agitated and flew around calling when we walked in the road under the nest. This one looked more threatening than was actually the case.

Here's a few more photos of the Ospreys (Fish Eagles) that were nesting near our home. They are gone now, though one of the young hung around the nest for weeks after the adults and other chick had left.

We've had a pair of Western Ospreys or Fish Hawks nesting not from our home since we live near a lake. They raised two chicks this year and when this photo was taken were trying to persuade the chicks to leave the nest. These are the adults, perched in a dead tree near the nest, calling to the chicks. One of the chicks finally did fly out of the nest while we were watching but the other did not, though both have left now.

The Western Osprey or Fish Hawk has a wing span of nearly six feet (72 cm). We live near a lake and have a pair of them nesting down the road from our home. The raised two chicks which have now left the nest but were still on the nest when this photo was taken.

The Western Osprey or Fish Hawk is a large raptor with a six foot wing span (72 cm). A pair of them nested not far from our house and raised two chicks. This is one of the chicks, nearly full grown, on the edge of the nest.

Also known as a Fish Hawk, the Western Osprey is a large bird of prey with a wing span of six feet (180 cm). We live near a lake and have had a pair of them nesting near our home. They raised two chicks this year and when this photo was taken the chicks were nearly full grown and ready to leave the nest. Our walking by, however, disturbed the parents (we were more careful thereafter) and they flew around calling as this one is doing.

This was taken by my wife outside the town of Medical Lake, Washington, where we were watching on osprey bringing food to the next. Having come with a fish the bird was just leaving again when the photo was snapped.

This is the same bird as below, but the photo was taken while he was flying away with his catch, just visible in his claws. Our presence and attempts to get pictures frightened him away apparently and this was the last shot we were able to get of him. This was along the Methow River in eastern Washington.

An Osprey or Fish Eagle photographed along the Methow River south of Twisp, Washington. He had been fishing and actually has a fish in his left claw, but it cannot be seen in the photo. We watched him for quite a while until he finally flew away with his catch. The Methow Valley and River are on the eastern side of the Cascades.

Photographed in the Medical Lake area of eastern Washington. There are a number of Osprey (Fish Eagle) nests near the lakes there and we often stop to watch and photograph the birds when they are nesting.

Last week Friday we were in Medical Lake, Washington, west of Spokane to visit our handicapped son. While driving about near the town we discovered a nest pole being used by a family of Ospreys (Fish Eagles). There were two adults and two young who appeared to be nearly ready to leave the nest. We watched them for quite a while listening to their shrill cries and watching the adults flying nearby. ronaldhanko-orchidhunter.blogspot.com/2010/08/medical-lak...
