HBM - A reservoir sit-down

04 Sep 2023 31 38 210
A view down the valley of four reservoirs to the village of Marsden. The water below us is the end of Butterley Reservoir. Just a few feet behind me is Blakeley Reservoir. Yes, we actually sat and rested on this bench. Enjoy full screen. Have a great day.

Blake Clough Waterfall

Quite a spectacular waterfall here seen from the lane up to the top Wessenden Reservoir near Marden. The Pennine Way runs just above this. The rocky pool at the bottom is known as a place where one can take a 'skinny dip!' Of course this scene is probably much better than it would normally be, after weeks of torrential rainfall here. The height here, I would estimate 50-100ft (15-30m) pip As usual, best full screen.

HFF…. A Wessenden Reservoir walk We are here at Marsden in Yorkshire again after a gap of two years or more. This is the third one up from the village of four reservoirs. I do hope you like the fence post minus the wire leading our eye to the walkers in the distance. Enjoy this in peace, so far away from our Ukrainian neighbours this weekend and spare them a thought in their hour of need! Herb

Marsden, its valleys and reservoirs

20 Feb 2020 27 16 291
A look down the valley from the top of three reservoirs in a row here. I am actually stood on the dam wall of Wesseden, with the one below, Blakeley, just out of sight tucked in the valley and the one we can see is the bottom reservoir called Butterley. Beyound that is the large West Yorkshire village of Marsden. A three mile hike from that reservoir to here. In this cold 4C windy weather, its a good job we have brought a flask of hot coffee!

A cold day in February and a big four reservoir walk here near the Yorkshire town of Marsden. Of course a lot of these fences around but not all with a view like this, HFF, enjoy the weekend. View full size to really enjoy the walk!

Standedge Canal Tunnel, Marsden

30 Sep 2018 9 10 356
A day out at the other side of our local Pennine Saddleworth moor brings us to the small Yorkshire town of Marsden. We are here at the other side of our very own Huddersfield Narrow Canal tunnel in the Saddleworth village of Diggle. See Pips for other end and also Tunnel venting system. Standedge Tunnel is 3.5 miles or 5,029 metres or 16,499 feet long and is only wide enough for one narrowboat at a time.
