Hornby Castle from the River Wenning

29 Sep 2021 26 32 253
Traveling east a short distance from our base near Carnforth we are at a village called Hornby. Walking just near the A683 road bridge over the River Wenning we see this attractive castle. Unfortunately time does not let us have a closer look at the grounds and gardens. Perhaps next time though. See PiP for closer look. "The castle sits on a hill with dramatic views overlooking the Lune valley and Ingleborough. It is set in beautiful grounds and has a garden which is open to the public. The central Keep tower dates back to 1520 but the house was rebuilt c1820 in early Victorian style with splendid ornate ceilings and carved wood panelling." www.hornbycastle.com Enjoy full size.

The river outlet at the Northern end of this wonderful stretch of water here in the English Lake District is an ideal spot to relax and take in the splendours of this scene.

Visions of Park Bridge: The Weir in Summer

A view here of this, what we used to call 'The waterfall' in the country park of Park Bridge. Always a pleasant sight, especially in this lighting. many times I have seen people taking a quick picnic sat on the rocks on the left here. On our return trip today, we passed some boys taking a quick dip in here in their underclothes. Not a thing that I would do, as in years passed, this was one of the most polluted rivers in this area. See too, my alternative views and times here. (ps -this is my second posting as I accidentally deleted this from here some minutes back.)

Visions of Park Bridge: The Weir in Winter

Continuing with this series, here is the same waterfall/weir photo but in Winter. This taken just a couple of years back now so you can see how often I walk this way. Quite a different feeling to the Summer shot here. Enjoy full screen.

A dash of Winter

As another bout of cold weather descends on my home here in NW England, I take the opportunity again to walk my local paths along with my trusty Nikon. This path which seems, for 99% of the year mud bound, is now frozen and has a new layer of white powder snow. The small waterfall, S-curve and lovely green boughs of the pines all go together to make this almost a painting. ps best viewed in full size.
