I have seen this a few times from the land but this is a rare shot from the sea taken from the Hollyhead-Dublin ferry. The PiP's shows closer clifftop views.

Davaar Island lighthouse

Taken from the mainland about a mile away, just before Cambeltown on the Mull of Kintyre. We were to visit this Island and lighthouse a few days later. Enjoy full screen.

South Stack, Anglesey

Another of Britain's iconic coastal scenes. This is on the far west coast of Anglesey, Wales. Taken during a visit in 2015 and posted now after a realisation that I had not shared these scenes with you my Ipernity viewers. Enjoy full screen. More info: www.southstacklighthouse.com PiP

Amywch Lighthouse

21 Aug 2021 19 11 225
A square tower erected in 1853, is the fourth on this site, the first probably in 1817. It has original fine, but battered, ashlar masonry to a height of 4.6 metres (15ft), the present lantern was added on top at a later date. The light was discontinued in 1973. Two short piers at Amlwch were built following a private Act of Parliament of 1743, when the harbour was improved. Two octagonal houses with small lanterns, protruding from the roof, were added. They were described in the New Seaman’s Guide as "small white houses displaying lights at night". In 1816 an outer pier, about 46 metres (151ft) long, was built to give shipping extra protection inside the harbour. In 1817, a small lighthouse with a light 8.5 metres (28ft) above high water mark was built, subsequently replaced with the present lighthouse. There are, like many, variations to this story, some say it was built in 1853, others sources including Findlay's 1879 list say the building is the 1817 original. The drydock and lighthouse on the small creek at Amlwch once served the shipping of one of the largest copper mines in Europe, located at Parys Mountain. The significance of the early copper-exporting port at Amlwch makes the lighthouse part of a heritage site of international importance. Point Lynas view

Another look at both the lighthouse and the old Point Lynas boat jetty pier. This is where the old Pilot boats would call and pick-up/drop-off the pilots to guide shipping around this dangerous coast, to and from the port of Liverpool. The lighthouse standing like a small fort here with those castellation’s and even a cross in the wall. See PiP. Enjoy full screen.

Point Lynas Lighthouse

Sitting on a point of land about three miles east of Almwch on the Isle of Anglesey. A pilot station was established on the point in 1766 to guide ships entering and leaving Liverpool, with an associated lighthouse added in 1836. It is still in use with its reflector seen here behind the circular windows. We picnicked just near this spot where looking up you also see the small coastguard hut. The PiPs shows the view from here back to the mainland and the Snowdonia mountain range, and I also show a snap of the playful dolphin from this very same spot, captured whilst we ate. Enjoy full screen.

Glasson Dock and its Lighthouse

Established in 1836 and now disused, we see here the small very unusual lighthouse on this secluded Victoria Terrace. On the left side we see the big black lock gate that takes shipping from the Lancaster Canal, behind me, into a deep lock and then through another lock-gate into the estuary across from Sunderland Point into the Irish Sea. Have a great weekend. Herb

The Wonders of Mallorca: Cap de Formentor

15 Aug 2020 17 6 204
Our northern coastal journey culminates at this impressive lighthouse overlooking Puerto Pellensa . The only problem being, that it is so popular in high season that it is almost impossible to get anywhere near this on four wheels. I had to park some distance away on a very limited stay then run to the top, take a few snaps then run back to the car. You can get the idea on full screen. - The PiP shows the view from up here to the left. We shall see the other views shortly. Enjoy full screen

The Wonders of Mallorca: Port de Sóller - The li…

Another view from across the bay at this village towards the open sea. Rocks and reefs can be a problem here, so for millennia the inlet has been lit by lighthouses. Unfortunately a closer look of the older tower via a stroll was not possible, as that little corner is still controlled by the military as can be seen by the sign. Maybe great guns once protected the inlet in the past. Pip shows alternative view Enjoy full screen.

A rather artistic view here but not a distraction I hope.
