In this European Tree of the Year 2020 we can enjoy another look at this fine Silver Birch here in Chew Valley, Saddleworth. A splendid tree in all seasons but with this almost surreal natural cloud background it is something else.
This years results of our best trees. : www.treeoftheyear.org/results

Memories from Lanzarote: towards Alegranza

As we leave the Island of Lanzarote and indeed the whole set of Canary islands, the sun starts to set over one of Lanzarote's closest neighbours, the Island of Alegranza. This is the most northerly point in the Canary Islands, and is part of the Chinijo Archipelago. The island features a volcano with a crater of about 1.1 km in diameter and an altitude of 289 m.
That is the end of my memories from Lanzarote series, I hope you have enjoyed it.
As usual, best viewed full screen on black.

Two pieces of glass standing side by side, almost mirroring themselves in their enveloping curves. Behind is a background of sky blue and clouds with hints of red reflections in the glass from somewhere, we know not where from.

As the night turns slowly to day, I take the rare chance of capturing the sun rising. Normally the fist sight of the sun is the most exciting and best thing to photograph but in this case I like this pre-sunrise better. The dark blue of the night sky turning to a blood-red just around the famous Penyal d'Ifac at Calpe is a crowning point to rest my eye on. Enlarged, one can easily make out the night fishing boats with their lights. Tech info: 34mm Nikon at F7, 1/6th sec iSO 1250, tripod mounted.
