A scene from one of the many little creeks on the Plock of Kyle. Once a nice seafaring yacht cruiser here but now, well past its time. Maybe the rowing boat still has some life left in it though.
Enjoy the day.

The Skye Bridge from Plock of Kyle

This natural public park area lets you take your car to a splendid viewpoint. Here we are on the top, after a further short walk, with views across to Skye and north to the Applecross Peninsular. Across from us is the Skye village of Kyleakin , another hot spot for bridge photos and the old Skye ferry harbour. The water is Lochalsh itself and we see the Skye viaduct to the bridge too. A very cloudy day with spots of rain and we were to come here again with no better luck with the weather. The PiP shows the bridge from the lower shore viewpoint on the Plock.

We were informed that otters inhabit this area but unfortunately not today for us. However a wonderful view from the north facing shore greets us. This was at the edge of a golf course once and so I wonder if this water is full of old golf balls or maybe the otters have collected them all (˚◡˚)

We are next to the village of Kyle of Lochash in a local beauty spot called Plock of Kyle. It now covers the area of an old golf course, hence the reference on this seat. As we have just started to explore here, we have yet to see what it offers.
“The Plock of Kyle (Am Ploc in Gaelic) is the beautiful promontory west of Kyle of Lochalsh. The road to the Skye Bridge crosses its southern shores, but away from the road the Plock is a wonderful place to explore, with wild flower meadows, native woodland, a series of hidden rocky coves and a fine viewpoint. It's rich in wildlife; this is an excellent place to look for otters. Whilst the directions may seem complex due to the many paths, the exact route taken matters little - the Plock is a great place to explore. It is owned by the Kyle and Lochalsh Community Trust who have developed access for the benefit of locals and visitors alike. www.walkhighlands.co.uk/kintail/Plockofkyle.shtml

Taken on a quite Sunday. This station acts as the main station on the Scottish Mainland for passenger traffic to the Isle of Skye. That, until a few years ago used to be from near the harbour (on the left here) via ferry to Kyleakin but nowadays all traffic goes via the big new Skye Bridge. It is also the terminus for many train specials that come from Aviemore and 'The boat of Garten' heritage station. Some of these would be pulled by steam locos.
The train is one of our Class 158 Express Sprinters–a diesel DMU (Diesel Multiple Unit). Not that most of the single track line it will travel along allows any fast speeds at all. The train shown here runs to Inverness via what is known as the 'Kyle Line' and takes approx. 2 ½ hours.
Enjoy the day.
