Autumn can be exciting and most colourful. Here we see a capture of a small part of ‘Strid Wood’ in the Wharfedale Valley of the Yorkshire Dales taken a year or so back but just as relevant today.

As we walk up the valley here on the Dales Way alongside the infant River Wharfe I spot a most notable dead tree. I am sure it was once a proud member of its family and we can only guess at the changes it has seen here. Just a mile or so further we were to reach the hamlet of Yokenthwait.

A walk in a valley that we have not seen for many years. Its quite wild looking but most of it is surrounded by pastoral fields. To our left just some 30 metres or so is one of our favourite rivers: The River Wharfe. Our path goes on now for another 2-3km before turning back well above this spot and beyond. Always nice to see the wild summer flowers. The characteristic dead tree also giving our eyes something to dwell on.
Hubberholme is an old village in Upper Wharfedale in the Yorkshire Dales, North Yorkshire, England, at the point where Langstrothdale meets Wharfedale. It is quite secluded and the nearest village is Buckden.
Have a good weekend.
The walls of The Dales

On the hillside path to Starbottom from the village of Kettlewell in the Yorkshire Dales, there are many walls and barns to be seen. On this day we were fortunate with the pronounced strong light coming just over the opposite steep valley side. On a previous walk along the valley bottom we saw an owl in one of these barns.

Digging into my 2008 archives here to show another photo with a traditional stone barn and dry-stone walls from The Yorkshire Dales. This taken in the Wharfedale valley between Starbottom and Kettlewell.
HWW, have a great day.

♫ On a Hill Far away stood an old Rugged Cross......... ♫
An appropriate landscape for this Easter Day. We are looking west on a winters day in 2006 after a walk along the Wharfdale valley in the Yorkshire Dales, dropping down to the village of Linton.
Wishing you all a Happy and healthy Easter
