Nel cuore di Expo, all’incrocio tra il Cardo e il Decumano, si alzano ai quattro lati di Piazza Italia le sculture alte dieci metri disegnate da Daniel Libeskind. Composte da eliche in alluminio che si intrecciano e si sviluppano a spirale come i rami di un albero, «ricordano le ali - Wings (il loro nome, ndr.) - di un grande volatile e il volo della mente», ha spiegato l’archistar. Straordinaria nella sua composizione geometrica, ogni scultura pesa 14 tonnellate e è concepita come un contenuto multimediale con effetti luminosi e sonori. Solamente chi si avvicina riesce a coglierli, come una sorpresa che si rivolge al singolo visitatore.

La grande struttura in legno e acciaio che costituisce l'Albero della Vita si erge al centro di Lake Arena. È alto 37 metri ed è collocato davanti a Palazzo Italia, all’estremità del Cardo. È stato realizzato da Orgoglio Brescia, consorzio di imprese locali, e si inserisce all’interno della grande metafora del Vivaio che si trova alla base del concept del Padiglione Italia, ideato da Marco Balich, direttore artistico di Padiglione Italia nonché produttore di grandi eventi e regista, e progettato dallo Studio Gioforma. La struttura dell’Albero della Vita affonda le radici in uno dei periodi artistici più fervidi dell’arte italiana, il Rinascimento. Dal disegno michelangiolesco, è nata la forma di questa grandiosa costruzione a metà tra monumento, scultura, installazione, edificio, opera d’arte. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------- With a capacity of 20,000 spectators in its 28,000-square-meter expanse, the Lake Arena is the largest open space for visitors. Located at the centre of the Lake Arena is the Tree of Life, which is, at one and the same time, a monument, a sculpture, an installation, a building, and a work of art. Constructed by Orgoglio Brescia, a consortium of local businesses, and some 37 metres tall, this wood and steel structure forms part of the metaphor of the Plant Nursery, which informs the concept of the Italian Pavilion. The latter was designed by Marco Balich, who is also its Artistic Director, and whose other talents include producing large-scale events. The structure of the Tree of Life takes its cue from the Renaissance. Indeed, Marco Balich based his design on designs by Michelangelo.

Confooderatio Helvetica Nella sua personale riflessione sul Tema di Expo Milano 2015 Nutrire il pianeta, energia per la vita la Svizzera, primo Paese ad aver aderito a Expo Milano 2015, riflette sulla scarsità delle risorse alimentari nel mondo e mostra l’altra faccia dell’abbondanza. Il suo padiglione è costituito da quattro torri piene di acqua, sale, caffè e mele dai quali il visitatore potrà attingere. Ma c’è un limite alle risorse disponibili… superarlo significa privare gli altri visitatori delle stesse possibilità. Grazie alla modularità della struttura, mano a mano che le torri si svuotano il livello delle piattaforme su cui poggiano si abbassa, permettendo così al pubblico di visualizzare il proprio comportamento in relazione ai consumi. Il progetto, incentrato sulla disponibilità e sulla distribuzione delle risorse alimentari a livello mondiale, invita i visitatori a riflettere sul proprio comportamento di consumo. With its unique take on the theme of Expo Milano 2015 Feeding the Planet, Energy for Life, Switzerland, which was the first country to join the Expo Milano 2015, reflects on the scarcity of food resources in the world and shows the other side of abundance. Its pavilion is made up of four towers, full of water, salt,coffee and apples which the visitor can take away. But there is a limit to the resources available... to exceed that limit is to deprive other visitors of the same opportunities. Thanks to the modularity of the structure, the platform on which the towers stand is lowered as they are emptied, allowing everyone to see for themselves their own habits of consumption. The project, which focuses on the availability and distribution of food resources in the world, invites visitors to reflect on their behavior as consumers.

Il colosso immobiliare China Vanke partecipa all’Expo Milano 2015 con un proprio padiglione di 1000 m² disegnato dall’archistar Libeskind. “Un microcosmo che collega la Cina con l’Italia e la cultura europea con quella cinese” come ha spiegato l’architetto al progetto per Milano 2015. Immaginato secondo pensieri di Confucio e Lao Tzu, con riferimenti al Rinascimento e alle geometrie sinuose dell’arte contemporanea, il padiglione Corporate China Vanke sarà il lungo che accompagnerà il visitatore di e gli sviluppi che ha compiuto nel XXI secolo. Coerentemente con il tema di Expo Milano la volontà del progettista è rappresentare “la crescita di un organismo che dalla terra sale verso il cielo, e si ispira allo ‘shitang’ (mensa in cinese) ovvero alla condivisione del pasto e alla convivialità comune”. La mensa, infatti, offre momenti di incontro e di scambio, rappresentando quella serenità ideale tra le persone, per la quale la società Vanke si fa promotrice. L’esterno del padiglione èinteramente rivestito da piastrelle rosse, disegnate per l’occasione da Libeskind e prodotte da Casalgrande Padana, in un nuovo materiale ceramico: ecosostenibile ed autopulente. Al suo interno il Padiglione Vanke narra la storia cinese attraverso una passeggiata in una foresta virtuale composta da 300 schermi che proiettano cortometraggi sulla vita delle comunità locali, nella cui quotidianità lo shitang svolge un ruolo fondamentale. A Venue to Foster Joy and Harmony for the Chinese The Chinese giant and leader in real estate, with its participation in Expo Milano 2015 aims to offer the world a showpiece of contemporary life in China, from the perspective of ordinary people, through the experience and spirit of the Shitang. In its pavilion of 959 square meters are recreated the atmospheres linked to the Shitang which, much more than a simple canteen, represents a traditional social structure, present since ancient times, and which still exists in contemporary Chinese society in various forms. It is a convivial space where they can find inexpensive food and a peaceful, healthy environment. The pavilion, located near the Lake Arena, was designed by architect Daniel Libeskind of New York and by Libeskind Architettura in Milan, which conceived it as an extension of the surrounding landscape. The musicality of its proportions, its sinuous geometry and the fluid movement between the inner and outer volume, create a journey through space and time. The exhibition is organized on two independent routes, from the inside towards the outside, and with a garden that is found on the roof. Visitors are immersed in a forest of poles, with screens which project scenes of lunches, joy, and sharing. The installation, based on the metaphor of roots, trunks and branches symbolizes Vanke’s commitment to the community, which lives among the mutual relationships of people, values and traditions.
