A qualche metro dai Ponti Coperti, il Barrage Vauban o Grande Chiusa (in quanto permetteva, in caso di necessità, di innondare tutto il lato sud della città) fu costruito all'incirca nel 1690 da Tarade, su progetto dell'ingegnere militare Vauban.
