Bishop Bridge spans the River Wensum at the western edge of Norwich's Cathedral Quarter. The bridge was built in 1340, and is still in use, making it one of the oldest active bridges in England. In 1578 when Elizabeth I passed across Bishop Bridge on her way to visit the Earl of Surrey. Throughout the medieval period a gatehouse stood at the western end of the bridge to control access. The gatehouse was a part of the bridge until 1791 when it was torn down. The only remnant is a semi-circular projection(which can be seen in the photo) on one side of the bridge that formed part of a turret.

St Fagans

St Fagans has a special place in the hearts of the people of Wales. It first opened its gates to the public on 1 July 1948. This was the UK’s first national open air museum. It was radical in its day because it reflected the everyday lives of ordinary people. Since then, it has become Wales’ most popular heritage visitor attraction. It stands in the grounds of the magnificent St Fagans Castle, a late 16th-century manor house donated to the people of Wales by the Earl of Plymouth. During the last fifty years, over fifty original buildings from different locations in Wales and from different historical periods have been re-built in the 100-acre parkland. Each building is frozen in time and opens a door into Welsh history offering a fascinating glimpse into the past. This photo is of the lake leading up to the gardens of St Fagans castle.

The red white and blue on the left is the reflection of a Norwegian pennant on a mast. I looked at this for at least 10 minutes, in my own little world.

In 1569 the land and buildings of the Convent of Greyfriars were acquired by Sir Thomas MacLellan of Bombie, Provost of Kirkcudbright. He demolished the convent and used the stone to build what on its completion in 1582 was one of the grandest houses in Scotland.

Autumn reflections at lake Vyrnwy

We had been up to this Welsh reservoir the day before and it was very misty, but the autumn colours looked lovely, but very muted at a distance. It was perfect the day after. The larch trees in particular were golden.
