Jewel Colours in a Pruned Yew

13 Oct 2024 30 17 276
SC117 - Post 13 October - Square composition This photo is taken of the inside bowl of a very old yew tree. Various cuts have been made here, and I'm not sure why the colours are so vibrant. Could the colours be due to the oils and resins of the tree? The giant yews on first terrace were planted around 1680, of which this is one of the 'interiors, form the clumps we see today on the top terrace of Powis Castle. topiaryintheuk.co.uk/powis-castle

Today's Saturday Self Challenge is: A fountain. This is a calm area in The Quarry in Shrewsbury called The Dingle. It is maintained by the local council, and this pool area is at its best in Autumn. The gardens are very popular with visitors, but this year there has been a strict one-way movement through the area with parts of the garden fenced off.

Erddig Hall is a National Trust property on the outskirts of Wrexham, Wales. Located 2 miles (3.2 km) south of Wrexham town centre, it was built in 1684–1687 for Josiah Edisbury, the High Sheriff of Denbighshire; it was designed in 1683 by Thomas Webb. Erddig has one of the last surviving 18th-century gardens with a large walled garden and Victorian parterre, and extensive designed parkland which offers 13 miles of footpaths.
